COLIC IN HORSES

ro---2026-01-27T114312.287

Colic means ANY abdominal pain, from mild to life-threatening.
Catching it early makes a HUGE difference.

Common Signs to Watch For:

  • Not eating or acting “off”
  • Pawing, looking at the belly
  • Rolling or repeatedly lying down / getting up
  • Little to no manure
  • Restlessness, sweating
  • Stretching out, like urinating

What to Do Right Away:

  • Take away grain/hay (offer fresh water)
  • Walk the horse calmly if safe (don’t exhaust them)
  • Check gums, temperature, heart rate if able
  • Call your veterinarian immediately
